BLACKSBURG – A top 25 conference matchup against No. 14 Notre Dame at home highlights the No. 25 Virginia Tech women’s soccer team’s schedule this weekend.
The Hokies will face the Fighting Irish on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 3:30 p.m., at Thompson Field. VT will then conclude the weekend with a match at Miami, its final road game of the regular season, on Sunday, Oct. 22. First kick from Cobb Stadium is set for noon. Miami’s match will be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra through WatchESPN and the ESPN app.

Thursday’s match also is “Maroon Effect” night at Thompson Field. Admission is free, and fans are encouraged to wear maroon in support of the Hokies. The team will give away maroon metallic pom poms to the first 100 fans at the game.
Following its 1-1 double-overtime draw against Louisville on Oct. 16, Tech moved to 10-4-2 overall and 2-3-2 in ACC play and extended their unbeaten streak to four games. The Hokies trailed 1-0 late in the game, before senior forward Murielle Tiernan scored the equalizer in the 81st minute, her eighth goal of the season.
Tiernan, the program’s all-time leading goal scorer, paces Tech and is fifth in the ACC with eight goals on the year. The Ashburn, Virginia, native shows a team-best 16 points (8 G), followed by junior forward Alani Johnson with 12 (6 G). Of note, the Hokie offense is averaging 1.75 goals scored per game, and Tech is 7-0-1 when scoring two or more goals this season.
Tech will meet Notre Dame (10-2-3, 5-1-1) for the sixth time in program history, as the Fighting Irish own a 3-2 all-time series edge. Last season, Notre Dame claimed a 3-0 victory over Tech on Oct. 30, in Notre Dame, Indiana. The last time the Hokies defeated the Fighting Irish was during the 2013 season, as the team picked up a 2-1 double-overtime victory on Nov. 3, in Blacksburg.
Notre Dame most recently earned a 1-0 victory over North Carolina on Oct. 14, in Notre Dame, Indiana. Freshman forward Jennifer Westendorf paces the team with six goals and 13 points, while senior goalkeeper Kaela Little shows 66 saves and ranks No. 2 in the ACC with a .45 goals-against average.
The Hokies hold a 9-4-3 all-time series advantage over the Hurricane (8-7-0, 3-4-0), as head coach Charles “Chugger” Adair owns a 4-0-1 record. Tech has not lost to Miami since the 2010 season, as the team claimed a decisive 3-0 win over the Hurricane in its last meeting on Oct. 17, 2015.
The Hurricanes have lost three straight matches, including a 1-0 double-overtime setback to Pitt on Oct. 9, in Pittsburgh. Miami averages 1.88 goals/game and shows a .79 goals-against average. Freshman forward Kristina Fisher leads the team with 20 points (7 G, 6 A).
Of note, the Hurricanes will play host to Louisville tomorrow evening before the Hokies come to town on Sunday.
