The No. 24-ranked Virginia Tech women’s soccer team plays host to Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) foe Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 16, with first kick from Thompson Field set for 1 p.m.

The contest will be streamed lived on the Regional Sports Network with Tech alum Morgan Conklin and Jenn Hildreth on call. Of note, the game also will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra through WatchESPN and the ESPN app in case of blackouts.

Sunday’s match is the Hokies’ annual “Pink Match,” and all fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. The first 100 fans through the gate will receive a free VT pink water bottle.

It’s also “Senior Day,” and Tech’s seven seniors – Jordyn Brock, Candace Cephers, Sydney Curtis, Bria Dixon, Blayne Fink, Marie Johnston and Murielle Tiernan – will be honored prior to first kick.

Tech (10-4-1, 2-3-1) is 1-2-1 all-time against Louisville (7-4-3, 2-2-2), as the Hokies have not lost to the Cardinals since joining the ACC in 2005. In its last outing, Tech captured a 3-0 victory at Louisville on Nov. 1, 2014. In 2013, the Hokies played the Cardinals to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Tech won its first ACC matches of the season, beating Syracuse and Boston College on a two-game road trip through the Northeast last week. The Hokies scored on an own goal by the Orange to pull out a 2-1 victory in Syracuse on Oct. 6. In their game against Boston College, senior forward Murielle Tiernan scored her second of two goals in the 109th minute to lift the Hokies to a 3-2 double-overtime win over the Eagles on Oct. 9, in Newton, Massachusetts.

In its last weekend of competition, Louisville split its conference matches at home. The team played N.C. State to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Oct. 6, followed by a 1-0 setback to Clemson on Oct. 9.

Of note, both teams had a week off in preparation for Sunday’s contest, as they did not play a midweek conference matchup.

The Hokie offense is averaging 1.80 goals scored per game, and Tech is 7-0-1 when scoring two or more goals this season. Tiernan, a 2016 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy candidate, owns a team-best seven goals, tied for the fifth best total in the ACC. Junior forward Alani Johnson sits in second with six goals, followed by senior midfielder Candace Cephers with three. Tiernan also paces the team with 14 points (7 G).

The Cardinals show four clean sheets on the season and a .85 goals against average. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Bucklin is 7-4-3 on the year with 54 saves. Louisville has tallied 25 goals thus far, as freshman forward Brooklynn Rivers paces the team with 11 points (4 G, 3 A).
