BLACKSBURG – The No. 18-ranked Virginia Tech women’s soccer team returns to Thompson Field for a three-match homestand, starting with the Virginia Tech Women’s Soccer Tournament this weekend.

Admission is free, as the team will collect non-perishable food items and small household appliances for the flood victims in West Virginia. All donated items will be given to the town of Clendenin, West Virginia.
Friday’s match also is “Teddy Bear Bonanza” night. Fans are invited to bring new or gently used teddy bears and other stuffed animals to toss on the field after the game. All donated items will be given to the Carillion Children’s Hospital.
The all-time series between Tech and Indiana is knotted at one apiece. The squads last met in 2015, with the Hokies earning a 2-1 win over the Hoosiers at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Indiana.
Sunday will be the first meeting between VT and BU. The Terriers are the second and final first-time opponent the Hokies will face in 2016. Tech owns a 1-0 mark over first-time opponents this year, defeating Mississippi State, 2-1, on Aug. 21, at the College of Charleston Tournament.
Tech’s 2-1 win at William & Mary on Sept. 4 was the first time in program history that the Hokies defeated the Tribe in Williamsburg. Senior forward Murielle Tiernan, the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week, came off the bench and tallied two first-half goals to deliver Tech’s fourth road win of the season.
Tiernan is tied for sixth in the ACC with four goals on the year and is Tech’s all-time leader with 43 career goals. Junior forward Alani Johnson and Tiernan are now tied for a team-best four goals and eight points this season.
Friday’s match is Indiana’s first on the road since picking up a 1-0 victory at Butler on Aug. 26, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Hoosiers arrive in Blacksburg on a two-match losing streak, most recently falling to SMU, 2-1, on Sept. 5. Freshman defender Caroline Dreher leads the team with three points (1 G, 3 A) and one game winner.
BU also rides a two-match losing streak into the weekend. The Terriers fell to Cincinnati (2-1) and Providence (2-0) last weekend, with sophomore midfielder Dorrie Varley-Barrett tallying a team-best seven shots on the season.
