BLACKSBURG – An NCAA second round rematch against Ohio State highlights the No. 16 Virginia Tech women’s soccer team’s schedule this weekend.

The Hokies will face the Buckeyes on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m., at Thompson Field. The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra through WatchESPN and the ESPN app. VT will conclude the weekend with a match against William & Mary on Sunday, Sept. 4. First kick is set for 2 p.m., at the Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field, in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Thursday’s match also is “Throw Back Thursday” at Thompson Field. Admission is free, as the team will sponsor a pizza social and autograph session for the fans immediately following the game.

The Hokies started the season with four straight wins for the sixth year in a row and is coming off two decisive wins, a 5-1 victory against East Carolina on Aug. 26 and a 2-0 win at James Madison on Aug. 28.

Junior forward Alani Johnson, the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Offensive Player of the Week, paces Tech and is tied for second in the ACC with four goals on the year. Johnson shows a team-best eight points (4 G) this season, followed by senior midfielder Candace Cephers with five (2 G, 1 A).

Tech (4-0) will meet Ohio State for the fourth time in program history, as the Buckeyes own a 2-1 all-time series edge. In its last meeting, Ohio State defeated Tech, 1-0, in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament on Nov. 20, at Jeffrey Field, in University Park, Pennsylvania.

OSU (4-0) most recently earned a 1-0 double-overtime win over Florida Gulf Coast on Aug. 28, in Fort Myers, Florida. Senior forward Lindsay Agnew paces the team with two goals and six points, while senior goalkeeper Jillian McVicker shows 13 saves and ranks No. 7 in the Big Ten with a 0.73 goals-against average.

Head coach Charles “Chugger” Adair and his squad will compete against the Tribe (2-1) for the first time since 2004, as William & Mary holds a 5-1 all-time series advantage over Tech. In the last meeting, Tech dropped a 2-1 decision over William & Mary on Nov. 11, 2004, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The Tribe tallied its second win of the year with a 2-1 victory over DePaul on Aug. 28, in Williamsburg. William & Mary averages 3.44 goals/game and boasts a .33 shutout percentage and a 1.33 goals-against average.
