Johnson named ACC Offensive Player of the Week
Johnson paces Tech and is tied for second in the ACC with four goals on the year

BLACKSBURG – Following her multi-goal game performances against East Carolina and James Madison last weekend, Alani Johnson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

A native of Virginia Beach, Johnson scored a pair of goals in both of the team’s wins last weekend, earning the Hokies’ first weekly conference honor of the season.

Johnson scored two goals in the second half, including the game winner at the 51:27 mark, as Tech captured a 5-1 win over East Carolina in its home opener on Aug. 26. Johnson also scored two goals in Tech’s 2-0 victory at James Madison on Aug. 28, recording the game winner just one minute into the second half.

Coming off the bench for the Hokies this season, the junior forward paces Tech and is tied for second in the ACC with four goals on the year. Johnson shows a team-best eight points this season, tallying three game winners throughout her career.

Also announced this morning, Johnson was named to the honorable mention team by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Louisville’s Gabrielle Vincent also was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

The Hokies return home on Thursday, Sept. 1, for a match against Ohio State. First kick is set for 7 p.m. Thursday’s match is known as “Throw Back Thursday” at Thompson Field. Admission is free, as the team will sponsor a pizza social and autograph session for the fans immediately following the game.

The match also will be streamed live on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.
