KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Virginia Tech women’s soccer player Murielle Tiernan has been named to the 2016 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Award watch list, as announced Wednesday. This is the second consecutive season that Tiernan has been named to the watch list.
The MAC Hermann Award Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, during the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Tiernan, a senior from Ashburn, Virginia, led the Hokies in goals (14) and scoring (31 pts.) last season. She was a 2015 NSCAA third team All-America selection, along with being selected to the 2015 All-Southeast Region and All-ACC first teams selection last season. She is the school’s all-time leader in goals (39) and points (92).
The watch list is compiled by the NSCAA Women’s NCAA Division I All-America Committee, based on analysis of returning All-America and All-Region players, as well as any prominent newcomers.
Tiernan is one of 36 student-athletes on the list and one of 10 players from Atlantic Coast Conference schools.
Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches whose programs are current NSCAA College Services members will vote on their top choices and the list will be narrowed down to the top 15 players. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process, by voting for their favorite semifinalist in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website, managed by LockerDome.
