Meier, Tiernan earn All-State honors
Hokie duo named to first team by VaSID

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech women’s soccer players Ashley Meier and Murielle Tiernan were selected to the 2015 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Women’s Soccer first team, as announced by VaSID on Thurday.

Tiernan, who has already received NSCAA All-America and All-Southeast Region and All-ACC honors this season, was placed on the VaSID First Team for the third-straight season. The junior forward from Ashburn, Virginia led the team in scoring and points with 14 goals and 31 total points. She was tied for second in the ACC in goals and fourth in points in the conference this season. She had a league-high eight game-winning goals, good for fourth nationally. She placed 20th nationally in goals per game. Tiernan is the leading scorer in Virginia Tech women’s soccer history.

Meier, a second team selection each of the past two seasons, was also named to the first team this year. Earlier this year, she was named first team All-ACC and second team NSCAA All-Southeast Region teams. The senior midfielder from Strongsville, Ohio completed her career second in career scoring at Virginia Tech and helped lead the Hokies to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and one College Cup appearance.

Emily Sonnett of Virginia was named Player of the Year and the Cavaliers’ head coach Steve Swanson was named Coach of the Year. Iris Achterhof of ODU was named as the VaSID Rookie of the Year.
