BLACKSBURG - Three Virginia Tech women’s soccer players were named to the NSCAA NCAA Division I Women’s All-Southeast Region teams. Junior Murielle Tiernan was named to the first team, senior Ashley Meier was named to the second team and senior Jordan Coburn was named to the third team, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Tiernan was named to the All-Southeast Region first team for the second consecutive season. The junior forward from Ashburn, Virginia led the team in scoring and points with 14 goals and 31 total points. She was tied for second in the ACC in goals and fourth in points in the conference this season. She had a league-high eight game-winning goals, good for fourth nationally. She was 20th nationally in goals per game. The leading scorer in Virginia Tech women’s soccer history, Tiernan was named first team All-ACC this season.
Meier earned the second-team honor for the third-straight year, adding the award to her All-ACC first team selection earlier this year. The senior midfielder from Strongsville, Ohio is second in career scoring at Virginia Tech and helped lead the Hokies to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and one College Cup appearance.
Coburn also earned the NSCAA All-Southeast Region honors for the third-straight season, after she was named to the second team as a sophomore and third team last year. The leader on the stout Hokie backline has helped Tech to six shutouts this season. She also led the Hokies in assists as a senior. Coburn has started all but three games in her entire career and has been an integral part of the Hokie defense in each of the last four seasons. Coburn earned third team All-ACC honors this season.
Virginia Tech’s three selections were tied for the second-most from any team in the southeast region, including soccer powerhouses in the ACC.
