Hokies open home slate vs. JMU and Tennessee
Tech enters weekend ranked ninth nationally
Virginia Tech vs. JMU & Tennessee Game Notes

Virginia Tech, ranked ninth in the NSCAA poll, opens the 2015 home portion of its schedule on Friday night, as they host in-state for James Madion. The match kicks off at 6 p.m. on Thompson Field. The Hokies also host Tennessee this Sunday, at 5 p.m. at Thompson Field. The Tennessee game will be shown on ESPN3.

Entering the Weekend

The Hokies enter the weekend ranked ninth in the NCSAA preseason poll and 10th in the TopDrawerSoccer.com preseason poll ... The Hokies are predicted to finish fifth in the ACC this season in a vote of league coaches.

Last Time Out

The Hokies won the 2015 Hoosier Classic over the weekend in Bloomington, Indiana ... Tech downed host Indiana, 2-1, on Friday night in the regular season opener and then downed No. 12 West Virginia, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon ... Murielle Tiernan scored both goals on Friday night and joined Candace Cephers in scoring Sunday’s goals.

Murielle’s Big Week

Junior Murielle Tiernan earned many accolades for her play over the weekend in the Hokies’ victory in the Hoosier Classic ... Tiernan, who scored three of Tech’s four goals on the weekend, was named the National Player of the Week by both espnW and TopDrawerSoccer.com ... She was also named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

Hoosier Honors

Juniors Murielle Tiernan and Candace Cephers, along with senior Ashley Meier, were named to the all-tournament team at the Hoosier Classic on Sunday afternoon.

The Hokies vs. James Madison

James Madison leads the all-time series, 12-4-1 ... The Hokies have won the last three meetings, most recently a 3-1 victory in Harrisonburg in 2013 ... Tech is 2-6-1 in home games and 3-0 against the Dukes under Chugger Adair ... Tech is 14-18-1 all-time against schools currently in the Colonial Athletic Association.

The Hokies vs. Tennessee

The Hokies won the only other meeting between the two schools, a 2-1 in Blacksburg in the 2007 series ... Tech is 4-4 all-time against schools currently in the Southeastern Conference.
