Coaches pick Hokies fifth in ACC preseason poll
Ashley Meier repeats on ACC preseason team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team was voted fifth in the ACC following a poll from the 14 ACC coaches on Thursday.

In the nation’s toughest conference for women’s soccer, Tech received 132 voting points to claim the fifth spot behind defending national champion Florida State, Virginia, North Carolina and Notre Dame, respectively.

Duke was voted in the number six spot followed by Clemson, Boston College, Wake Forest, Louisville, Syracuse, Miami, NC State and Pittsburgh.

Ashley Meier, a senior from Strongsville, Ohio, was named to the 2015 Coaches’ Preseason All-ACC Team, joining 10 of the best players in the dominant conference. This is the second consecutive season that Meier has been selected to the preseason team.

This is Meier’s second preseason honor after she was recently named to the Topdrawersoccer.com Preseason Top XI second team.

This year’s ACC Championship will consist of a semifinal on Nov. 6 and final on Nov. 8. The tournament will be played at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, also the home to the NCAA College Cup, to be played December 4 & 6.

The Hokies open the season on Friday, August 21 against Indiana in the Hoosier Classic. Game time is 7 p.m. in Bloomington, Indiana. The home opener is Friday, August 28 at 6 p.m. against James Madison at Thompson Field.
