Tiernan on MAC Hermann Award Watch list
Hokie junior one of 28 recognized for top soccer award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Virginia Tech women’s soccer player Murielle Tiernan has been named to the 2015 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Award watch list, as announced Wednesday.

The MAC Hermann Award Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, during the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

Tiernan, a junior from Ashburn, Virginia, led the Hokies in goals (14) and scoring (34 pts.) and was tied for the team lead in assists (6) last season. She was a 2014 All-Southeast Region and a 2014 All-ACC first teams selection last season.

The list is compiled by the NSCAA Women’s NCAA Division I All-America Committee, based on analysis of returning All-America and All-Region players, as well as any prominent newcomers.

Tiernan is one of 28 student-athletes on the list and one of eight players from Atlantic Coast Conference schools.

Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches whose programs are current NSCAA College Services members will vote on their top choices and the list will be narrowed down to the top 15 players. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process, by voting for their favorite semifinalist in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website, managed by LockerDome.
