Hokies ranked No. 13 by the NSCAA in preseason rankings
Six ACC teams in top 25

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team is ranked 13th nationally in the preseason NSCAA NCAA Division I women’s soccer rankings released Monday.

Last year’s squad finished the season 16-6 overall and ranked 12th nationally. The Hokies advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Chugger Adair returns five starters from last season’s team. Tech is led by senior Ashley Meier, who competed with the USA Soccer U23 team this summer, junior Murielle Tiernan, who was a first team All-Southeast Region performer and senior Jordan Coburn and junior Candace Cephers, who were both named to the NSCAA All-Southeast Region third team.

Tech is one of six ACC teams to begin the season ranked in the top-25 alongside Florida State (1), Virginia (2), North Carolina (7), Notre Dame (9), and Clemson (22). The Hokies schedule features six ranked teams, including No. 1 Florida State, No. 7 UNC, No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 12 West Virginia, No. 22 Clemson and No. 25 Georgetown. The Florida State (Oct. 22) and the North Carolina (Sept. 19) matches will be played at Thompson Field.

Tech will open its season at home against JMU on Aug. 28 at Thompson Field at 6 p.m.
