Chicago, Ill. – Virginia Tech women’s soccer player Ashley Meier has joined the US Soccer U-23 pool of competing players. Meier trained with the squad last week at a camp in Lakewood Ranch, Florida and will play with the team during an upcoming trip to Europe.
Meier, who just completed her junior year at Virginia Tech, is from Strongsville, Ohio. She is a two-time NSCAA All-Southeast Region second team selection and a three-time All-ACC second team selection. Meier is currently tied for sixth in career goals at Virginia Tech, with 24.
The camp in Florida, held April 26 through May 3, featured 24 current collegiate players. The majority of the roster has extensive experience with the USA’s Youth National Teams, including nine players who have played for the USA at FIFA U-17 or U-20 Women’s World Cup tournaments. The camp was used as a final evaluation to pick a 20-player roster that will travel to Norway in May to play the U-23 teams from Sweden, Norway and England. Meier was one of 10 of the 24 players in the camp who play in the ACC.
Meier has been a member of the national team pools since she was 12 years old and was a member of the U18 US National Team. She was the 2011 NSCAA High School National Player of the Year and a two-time high school All-American. Meier received the Ohio’s “Ms. Soccer” and State of Ohio Player of the Year awards her senior year.
Off the pitch, Meier is a three-time ACC All-Academic Team selection and a two-time ACC Honor Roll selection. She has been named to Dean’s List in Spring 2014, Fall 2013, Spring 2013 and Fall 2012.
