Game to be broadcasted on ESPN3

BLACKSBURG - The 16th-ranked Virginia Tech women’s soccer team travels to take on Louisville in their last regular-season game of the year on Saturday.

The Hokies are coming off a weekend split after beating Syracuse, 5-0, on Thursday and losing to No. 3 Virginia, 2-0, on Sunday. In the win over Syracuse, Tech scored four goals in the first half and added another on a penalty kick with only seconds left in the game. Candace Cephers and Murielle Tiernan both had two goals in the game and Shannon Mayrose had one.

Louisville enters the game after recently losing to Notre Dame, 1-0. The Irish scored a goal in the eighth minute and the Cardinals were unable to come back from the 1-0 deficit. Louisville fell to 7-8-2 on the season with a 3-4-2 ACC record.

The two teams have squared off three times in their history, with the Hokies trailing in the all-time series, 0-2-1. Last year, the Cards and the Hokies met for the first time since 1995 in the Wake Forest Invitational Tournament. The game ended in a 1-1 tie after both teams scored within the first 15 minutes of play.

Saturday’s game will begin at 6 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN3.
