No. 3 Tech looks for ninth-straight win at ECU
High-scoring Hokies battle to match program-best winning streak

BLACKSBURG - The red-hot third-ranked Virginia Tech women’s soccer team travels to East Carolina on Sunday afternoon looking to extend its winning streak to a record-tying nine games.

So far this season, the Hokies are 8-0-0, having scored an unprecedented 33 goals and given up only three. On Friday night, Tech beat Buffalo, 5-0, after sophomore Murielle Tiernan and freshman Madi Conyers scored twice and freshman Erika Perez scored once.

The Hokies have yet to be tested in any game, scoring the first two goals in every game this season. They are currently ranked third in the nation, their highest ranking in program history.

East Carolina enters the game with a 5-1-0 record looking to extend their five-game winning streak. On Friday night, the Pirates beat UNC Greensboro, 1-0, in their fifth shutout of the year. Lexi Herring scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute. In goal for the Pirates, Saundra baron has allowed only two scores while recording 22 saves this season.

Under head coach Chugger Adair, the Hokies have a 29-1-1 record in the regular season against non-conference teams. Their lone loss came in 2011 against Nebraska when Tech fell, 4-3, in double overtime.
