GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team was voted the No. 4 team in the ACC following a poll from the 14 ACC coaches on Monday.

In the nation’s toughest conference for women’s soccer, Tech received 150 voting points to claim the fourth spot behind Florida State, Virginia and North Carolina, respectively.

Duke was voted in the number five spot followed by Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Boston College, Clemson, Louisville, Syracuse, Miami, N.C. State and Pittsburgh.

After being tabbed the NSCAA preseason No. 5 team in the country, good for the highest preseason ranking in program history, the Hokies have garnered more respect than ever this preseason. This comes as no surprise considering last season’s record-breaking season consisting of 19 wins and an NCAA Women’s College Cup appearance.

Junior Ashley Meier was named to the 2014 Coaches’ Preseason All-ACC Team, joining 10 of the best players in the dominant conference. Virginia led all teams with three selections and Florida State had two.

This is Meier’s second preseason honor after she was recently named to the Topdrawersoccer.com Preseason Top XI Third Team.

This year’s ACC Championship will consist of a semifinal on Nov. 7 and final on Nov. 9. In previous years, the top-eight teams in the conference play in the ACC Championship, but this season only the top-four teams in the conference standings will advance.

Tech begins its season at home this Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at Thompson Field against VCU.
