BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will build on its first-ever trip to the NCAA College Cup with a spring schedule that includes a pair of top-ten teams, as announced by Head Coach Chugger Adair on Thursday.
Tech kicks off its spring slate on Sunday, March 23 with a matchup against Florida at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., the site of last year’s ACC Tournament and NCAA College Cup. The Gators were 18-5-1 and finished the 2013 season ranked No. 10 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Rankings after spending much of the year near the top five.
The following weekend, the Hokies will travel to Johnson City, Tenn. for a pair of March 29 matchups against Vanderbilt and ACC foe Clemson. Tech earned a 1-0 overtime win over the Tigers this past season, the first of four straight late-season victories for the Hokies.
The Hokies will then make a final road trip to play Pittsburgh and North Carolina on April 5. The Tar Heels were ranked No. 5 in the country at the conclusion of the 2013 season after reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Tech will wrap up its spring schedule at home with a match against Radford on April 27. The Hokies last faced Radford during the 2007 season.
“We’re looking forward to playing a very challenging schedule this spring,” Adair said. “We’re very excited to get back out on the field and see everyone play as we continue to build this program and grow as a team.”
The Hokies lose just three starters (forward Jazmine Reeves, defender Taylor Antolino and goalkeeper Dayle Colpitts) from last year’s 19-5-3 squad that finished the year ranked No. 4, reached the ACC Championship for the first time since 2008 and made the program’s first trip to the College Cup.
