CHICAGO, Ill. -- Ashley Meier of the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will make her third appearance with the United States Under-20 Women’s National Team next week, as the sophomore joins the team in its first training camp after winning the 2014 CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship.
The camp, under Head Coach Michelle French, will run from Feb. 22-March 2 in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., and will feature two matches against fellow FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier China PR.
Meier is coming off a sophomore campaign that saw her tally nine goals and two assists for the Hokies, helping Tech to advance to its first-ever NCAA College Cup. The Strongsville, Ohio native garnered Second Team All-ACC honors for the second consecutive season and was named to the NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team.
Meier and the USA will face China on Wed., Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. ET and on Sat., March 1 at 1 p.m. ET. The camp will also include a scrimmage against the University of Florida on Wed., Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. ET, mostly for players that didn’t get to play against China earlier in the day.
This will be the U-20 Women’s Team’s first training camp since clinching it’s berth to the upcoming U-20 Women’s World Cup by rolling through the CONCACAF qualifying tournament, where it won all five games by a combined 29-0 margin. The U-20 World Cup will be held Aug. 5-24 in four Canadian cities: Edmonton, Montreal, Moncton and Toronto.
