CARY, N.C. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will kick off play in its first-ever NCAA College Cup on Friday evening, as the No. 4 Hokies take on No. 3 Florida State in the NCAA Semifinal at WakeMed Soccer Park at 5 p.m.

Last Friday, Virginia Tech downed Duke in dominating fashion, as the Hokies rolled to a 3-0 victory in the NCAA Quarterfinals to advance to their first-ever College Cup. After junior Katie Yensen’s goal just before halftime, junior Shannon Mayrose and senior Jazmine Reeves both scored second half goals to seal the victory.

With the quarterfinal win, the Hokies are now 19-4-3 on the year, having set a new program record for victories in a single season. Tech has also scored 54 goals this year, making it the highest-scoring Hokie offense in school history, breaking last season’s record of 45 goals.

Reeves’ goal on Friday evening gives her 11 this year, tied for most on the team with freshman Murielle Tiernan. Sophomore Ashley Meier sits just behind them with eight goals. Junior Kelsey Loupee has nine assists to pace the Hokies.

Senior Dayle Colpitts has continued her stellar career this year, recording 76 saves en route to a school record goals-against-average of 0.69.

Florida State enters this weekend’s College Cup with a record of 22-1-3, after rolling through the first four rounds having matched the Hokies’ total of one goal conceded. The Seminoles earned victories over South Alabama, Ole Miss, Colorado and Boston College on their road to the College Cup.

FSU has spread its 56 goals amongst 13 players this year, led by Dagny Brynjarsdottir with 14. Marta Bakowska-Mathews has tallied eight for herself, while Megan Campbell has racked up 12 assists to pace the Seminoles.

Kelsey Wys has played every minute in goal for Florida State this season, racking tallying 63 saves while posting a 0.48 goals-against-average, the ninth-lowest average in the country this year.

The Seminoles have controlled the all-time series against Tech, winning 13 of the 14 meetings between the sides and drawing the other. However, the last three contests have all been decided by a single goal.

The two sides have already faced each other twice in 2013. In the regular season, FSU got a goal with three minutes to play to grab a 2-1 win in a match that the Hokies had largely dominated, while the Seminoles earned a 1-0 victory in a hard-fought, physical ACC Championship in Cary, N.C. just a few weeks later.

Brynjarsdottir has scored all three of FSU goals against Virginia Tech this season and was the only Seminole to register a shot in the two sides’ first meeting in Blacksburg.

Virginia will face UCLA in the evening’s other semifinal at 7:30 p.m. The winners of each contest will face one another in the national title match on Sunday at 3 p.m.
