BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will host its first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference tournament match on Sunday afternoon, as the fourth-seeded Hokies welcome the fifth-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish to Thompson Field for the ACC Quarterfinals at 1 p.m.

In their last match, on Thursday evening, the No. 5 Hokies dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision at No. 1 Virginia. The Cavaliers scored in the ninth minute and were able to withstand a second-half onslaught from the Hokies before catching Tech on a counter to score their second goal in the 90th minute.

Tech wrapped up its regular season with a 14-3-2 record, good for the most regular-season victories in program history, as well as a 9-3-1 record in ACC play. With 41 goals so far this season, the Hokies are just four short of the all-time single-season record, which was set last year at 45.

Sophomore Ashley Meier and freshman Murielle Tiernan have paced the Hokie offense in 2013, as each has chipped in eight goals. Senior Jazmine Reeves has added seven goals, along with five assists.

Senior Dayle Colpitts has been a stalwart in goal for the Hokies, recording 51 saves and posting a 0.69 goals-against-average while starting all 19 matches.

No. 19 Notre Dame enters Sunday’s quarterfinal having lost five of its last seven, including a 2-1 double-overtime heartbreaker at No. 3 Florida State on Thursday evening. This is Notre Dame’s first-ever ACC tournament match and the Fighting Irish enter the contest with an 11-6-1 record and a 7-5-1 mark in the conference.

Lauren Bohaboy has led Notre Dame in scoring thus far, racking up six goals to go with her four assists. Morgan Andrews has scored five times and a trio of Irish players have four goals.

Kaela Little has started every game at goalkeeper for Notre Dame, recording 62 saves and a 0.88 goals-against-average along the way.

Earlier this season, Notre Dame came to Thompson Field when the Irish were ranked No. 9 in the country and the Hokies were able to earn a 1-0 victory on the strength of Ellie Zoepfl’s 87th-minute goal.

That match was just the second time in program history that Tech has faced the Irish, with the other contest taking place in South Bend during the 2002 season.
