BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team welcomes its second top-10 opponent of the season to Thompson Field on Sunday afternoon, as the Hokies face No. 9 Notre Dame in a crucial Atlantic Coast Conference match.

Virginia Tech picked up a vital three points at home 10 days ago, as the Hokies downed Clemson in a hard-fought 1-0 match. After 90 minutes of scoreless play, junior Katie Yensen scored just 44 seconds into the first overtime period to secure the win, finishing a cross from senior Taylor Antolino for her third goal of the season.

Ten different players have scored a total of 32 goals for the Hokies in 2013. Senior Jazmine Reeves and Meier have led the way so far, tallying seven goals each in the first 13 matches of the season. Freshman Murielle Tiernan has scored five goals to go with four assists, tied for most on the team with Reeves.

The Hokies are now 10-1-2 on the season, including a 5-1-1 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play, after going undefeated in non-conference play for the second consecutive season. Tech is also yet to give up more than two goals in any match this season.

Tech’s efforts have propelled it into national rankings, as the Hokies sit at No. 10 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll and No. 12 in Soccer America’s national poll. In the RPI rankings, released weekly by the NCAA, the Hokies check in at No. 10.

Notre Dame enters Sunday’s contest with a 9-3-1 record this year, including a 5-2-1 mark in eight ACC matches. This past week, the Irish sustained a pair of tough defeats, dropping a 2-0 decision at Miami, before falling in a 3-2 double-overtime thriller at No. 1 Virginia.

Six players have scored at least three goals for Notre Dame in 2013, led by Lauren Bohaboy with six. Crystal Thomas has also proved a crucial cog in the Irish attack, racking up seven assists in 13 matches to lead the team.

Freshman Kaela Little has started all 13 matches in goal for Notre Dame this season, tallying 43 saves in her first collegiate season. Little has posted a 0.78 goals-against-average for the Irish thus far.

Tech has faced Notre Dame just once in the past, a 5-0 Irish win in 2002. The two teams have never met in Blacksburg.

The match will be televised by Fox Sports South and will be carried on a number of affiliates across the country, in addition to ESPN3. A complete list of networks is available at the attached link.
