BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will head north to face Boston College on Sunday, as it plays the second in a string of four consecutive ACC matches away from home.

Virginia Tech performed well in its first ACC road match of the season on Thursday evening, as the Hokies downed No. 21 Maryland 2-0 in College Park. Tech scored a goal in each half, as Katie DeTuro notched the eventual game-winner in the 38th minutes with a header, before Jazmine Reeves sealed the match with a one-on-one goal in the 88th.

Eight players have found the back of the net for the Hokies this year, as Tech has spread out its production. Reeves has led the way for Tech, as her goal against Maryland was her seventh of the year. Just behind her is a pair of underclassmen, as sophomore Ashley Meier and freshman Murielle Tiernan have both recorded five goals so far. Reeves’ four assists on the year also represent a team high.

The Hokies are now 7-1-1 on the season, after going undefeated in non-conference play for the second consecutive season. Tech is also yet to give up more than two goals in any match this season.

The Hokies’ efforts have propelled them into national rankings, as Tech sits at No. 23 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll and No. 25 in Soccer America’s national poll.

Boston College enters Sunday’s match with a 4-4-0 overall record, having lost two ACC matches in a row to fall to 1-2-0 in conference play. In their last match, the Eagles dropped a tough, 2-1 decision to No. 1 Virginia, a match in which BC held a 1-0 lead before the Cavaliers scored twice in four minutes to take control.

McKenzie Meehan currently leads the Eagles in goals, having tallied six through the team’s first eight matches. Stephanie McCaffrey has four goals, second-most on the team, but has dished out six assists already, three times as many as the closest Eagele.

Jessica Mickelson has seen the lion’s share of time at goalkeeper for Boston College, recording 18 saves in seven matches and owning a 1.68 goals-against-average.

The Hokies have faced Boston College times in program history, with the Eagles holding a 7-2-2 advantage in those matches. BC has won each of the previous two meetings, both in Blacksburg, by a single goal. Tech triumphed the last time the two teams faced off in Newton, as then-freshman Ashley Manning notched the game-winner in a 2-1 Hokie victory.

Tech has won five of its last six matches, including it’s last two. A victory on Sunday would match the Hokies’ best winning streak of the year.
