BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will kick off its longest road trip of the season on Thursday evening, as it travels to College Park, Md. for an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup against the No. 21 Maryland Terrapins.

Tech bounced back from a hard-fought, 2-1 loss to No. 1 North Carolina with a dominant, 3-0 home victory over ACC-newcomer Syracuse on Sunday afternoon. Senior Jazmine Reeves led the charge, notching both the opening and closing goals for the Hokies while providing the assist on the second tally. Freshman Murielle Tiernan and sophomore Jordan Coburn also chipped in with an assist each.

The Hokies are now 6-1-1 on the season, after going undefeated in non-conference play for the second consecutive season. Tech is also yet to give up more than two goals in any match this season.

Seven players have found the back of the net for the Hokies this year, as Tech has spread out its production. Reeves has led the way for Tech, as her goals against Syracuse were her fifth and sixth of the year. Just behind her is a pair of underclassmen, as sophomore Ashley Meier and freshman Murielle Tiernan have both recorded five goals so far. Reeves’ four assists on the year also represent a team high.

The Hokies’ efforts have propelled them into national rankings, as Tech sits at No. 23 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll and No. 25 in Soccer America’s national poll.

Maryland enters Thursday’s match with a 5-2-0 overall record after winning its opening ACC match, a 2-1 overtime win at Clemson last Thursday. Prior to opening their ACC season, the Terps travelled on a difficult west-coast swing that consisted of road trips to No. 22 Santa Clara and No. 4 Stanford.

Hayley Brock has led the way for Maryland on the offensive end, racking up an ACC-leading seven goals in the year’s first seven matches. Shannon Collins has made her mark on the season as a provider, as the sophomore already has a team-high five assists on the year.

Rachelle Beanlands has played all but one half in goal for the Terrapins, tallying 22 saves and holding opponents to a 1.07 goals-against average so far.

Tech has faced Maryland 10 times in its history, holding a 5-3-2 advantage in those matches. For the previous five matches, the home team has earned the victory, with all but one of those contests decided by a single goal. Last season, the 16th-ranked Hokies took down No. 18 Maryland, 1-0, in Blacksburg on the strength of a goal from then-junior Katie Deturo.

Thursday’s match will be the Hokies’ first of four straight road matches, as Tech will travel to Boston College, NC State and Duke before its next match at Thompson Field.
