BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team made its first appearance in a 2013 national poll this week, as Soccer America slotted the Hokies in at No. 22 in the September 10 edition of its National Women’s Top 25.

The Hokies earned their first national ranking since the end of the 2012 season by way of a 5-0-1 record through the conclusion of their non-conference schedule. This is the second consecutive season in which Tech has not suffered a regular season non-conference loss.

“We’re very happy to get some national recognition,” Head Coach Chugger Adair said. “We’ve worked very hard this year to get where we are, but we know that there’s a lot more soccer to be played this season.”

The Atlantic Coast Conference is well represented in the poll, as eight ACC squads were named in the Top 25, including three of the top four. The Hokies' next opponent, defending national champion North Carolina, tops the poll, just ahead of Virginia at No. 2 and Wake Forest at No. 4. Florida State at seventh and Notre Dame in eighth give the ACC five teams in the top 10.

Duke (12th), Tech and Maryland (24th) round out the conference representatives in the poll. The Hokies are one of three teams, along with Minnesota and Marquette, that make an appearance in this week's poll after being unranked last week.

Tech welcomes UNC to Thompson Field this Thursday, as the Hokies and top-ranked Tar Heels kick off at 7 p.m.
