BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will look to stay unbeaten this weekend, as it plays host to Charlotte on Friday evening before traveling north to face James Madison on Sunday evening.

Last weekend, the Hokies asserted themselves well in their first matches away from home, as they earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Louisville before exploding for a 4-2 victory over North Texas.

Freshman Murielle Tiernan accounted for the lone goal against the Cardinals, her third goal in as many collegiate matches. Senior Jazmine Reeves and sophomore Ashley Meier provided the offense again North Texas, as each tallied a pair of goals on the day. Meier also chipped in an assist on Reeves’ first goal.

Charlotte (Fri. Sept. 6, 5 p.m.) will come to Blacksburg having won all three of their matches in 2013. The 49ers, who have not played a match on the road yet, opened the season with a pair of 1-0 victories over Liberty and UNC Wilmington before taking down Gardner-Webb 2-1.

Junior Amanda Jones has paced Charlotte on offense this season, tallying two goals in three games, while SarahAnn Waugh and Sara Trexler have accounted for a goal a piece. Waugh also has an assist to her name.

Virginia Tech has faced the 49ers five times in program history, tallying a 1-3-1 record. However, the Hokies triumphed in the most recent meeting between the teams, a 5-1 decision at the Wake Forest Invitational in 2008.

“Charlotte is a very good side,” Head Coach Chugger Adair said. “They’ve had some good results early in the season. They’re very athletic up top and very workman-like at the back, so they’re going to be difficult for us to break down and score on.”

James Madison (Sun. Sept. 8, 7 p.m.) has accumulated a 2-2 record in its four matches this season. The Dukes have alternated wins and losses, most recently a 2-0 defeat on the road at the hands of Tennessee.

Meghan Cox has led JMU in 2013, notching a pair of goals so far, while four Dukes in addition to Cox have found the back of the net. Allie Bunner has also proved crucial, assisting on three goals already.

The Hokies own a 3-12-1 record against JMU, though Tech has won the last two contests. In the most recent match, a 3-1 Hokie victory in Harrisonburg, junior Katie Yensen, junior Shannon Mayrose and Reeves all scored for Tech.
