BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will look to stay undefeated as it hits the road for the first time in 2013, traveling to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on Louisville and North Texas as part of the Wake Forest Invitational.

This past weekend, the Hokies started their regular season on a dominant note, earning a pair of home wins over High Point (7-1) and East Tennessee State (2-0). Senior Ashley Manning and freshman Murielle Tiernan both scored two goals on the weekend to pace a Tech offense that saw seven different players tally at least one goal.

Senior Dayle Colpitts made history over the weekend, earning her 29th career victory at Tech, breaking the record for career wins in program history. Mallory Soldner (2003-06) held the previous record of 28 wins. Colpitts is also just one shutout from passing Soldner for the most career shutouts, having tallied 19 headed into this weekend’s matches.

Louisville (Fri. Aug 30, 4 p.m.) will also be playing its first match away from home when they face the Hokies, having opened its season with a 2-0 win over Butler and a 5-4 overtime loss to No. 17/25 Illinois. The Cardinals went 10-4-4 in 2012 before just missing an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Midfielder Charlyn Corral has led the way for Louisville’s offense so far in 2013. This past weekend, the senior scored three times and tallied an assist for the Cardinals, en route to being named the season’s first American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Virginia Tech has faced the Cardinals twice in its history, once each in the 1994 and 1995 seasons, falling in both contests.

“I think Louisville is going to be a huge test for us,” Head Coach Chugger Adair said. “They have a lot of athleticism and they play very good soccer. It’ll also be our first road game so it’s going to be our first real test for the girls. I’m excited to see how they step up this weekend.”

North Texas (Sun. Sept. 1, Noon) enters the weekend with a 2-0 record, after opening the season with a 9-1 rout of Texas Southern and a 1-0 home victory over Houston Baptist. The Mean Green went 16-5-2 last season, winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament before falling to Texas Tech in the NCAA Tournament, 2-0.

Freshman forward Rachel Holden has started her collegiate career in fine form for North Texas, scoring a hat trick in her first match before following it up with the game-winning goal against Houston Baptist. Holden was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts.

The Hokies have never faced North Texas in women’s soccer.
