BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer program announced its 2013 schedule, highlighted by 10 participants in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including defending national champion North Carolina. The Hokies are coming off their fifth-consecutive ACC and NCAA Tournament appearances, the last two under head coach Chugger Adair.

”Virginia Tech is excited about the upcoming season,” Adair said. “It is huge year within the conference, as we are adding three quality teams and we will play a schedule in which everyone will play everyone. It will be a tremendous challenge just to make the ACC tournament, but a challenge we looking forward to. If you want to be considered a top-tier team, you need to make some noise in conference and this schedule will put us to the test. This will be a conference schedule like no other in ACC history.”

Following a home scrimmage on Aug. 15 against Appalachian State, Tech will open the 2013 season on Thursday Aug. 23, as it hosts High Point and then host ETSU on Sunday, August 25.

The following weekend (Aug. 30 and Sept. 1), Tech will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to compete in the Wake Forest Invitational Tournament. The Hokies will play Louisville on Friday and NCAA Tournament participant North Texas on Sunday afternoon. Tech will complete non-conference play on Friday, Sept. 6, as they host Charlotte and Sept. 8, as they travel to James Madison.

The ACC has always been noted as the toughest conference in the country and this season, it gets even tougher, as Notre Dame, Syracuse and Pittsburgh join the league. Tech will begin conference play on Thursday, Sept. 12, as they host defending national champion North Carolina at Thompson Field at 7 p.m. The match with the Tar Heels begins a run of 13 consecutive ACC conference games.

The Hokies will host conference newcomer Syracuse on Sunday, Sept. 15 before playing four consecutive road games at Maryland, Boston College, NC State and Duke. Tech returns to Thomspon Field to begin a three-game homestand, beginning on Thursday, Oct. 3 against Clemson and including games on Sunday, Oct. 13 against Notre Dame and Thursday, Oct. 17 against Wake Forest.

Tech will play on Sunday, Oct. 20 at ACC newcomer Pittsburgh. The Hokies will return to Thompson Field to play its final two regular season home games, on Thursday, Oct. 24 against Florida State and Sunday, Oct. 27 against Miami. Tech will wrap up the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 31 at arch-rival Virginia.

The ACC Championship begins on Nov. 3, with quarterfinal games at designated home sites, while the semifinals and finals will be Nov. 8 and 10 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
