BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer program has inked seven signees for the upcoming 2013 season as announced by head coach Chugger Adair Tuesday. Tech welcomes Candace Cephers, Katherine Colevas, Sydney Curtis, Bria Dixon, Blayne Fink, Kallie Peurifoy and Murielle Tiernan to the 2013 squad.

“I am excited to announce the Class of 2013,” commented Adair. “This class is full of quality soccer players, student athletes and people. We can’t wait to finally have them on campus in Tech uniforms as part of the Hokie family. They will continue to grow, maintain and develop the high standards that have been set here at Virginia Tech. We have great pride and joy as we welcome the incoming class of 2013.”

Candace Cephers

Midfield – 5-10

Aurora, Colo. – Smoky Hill High School

Real Colorado National

A three-year letterwinner at Smoky Hill, Cephers heads into her senior campaign as the captain of her junior and sophomore squads. She was named to the All-Centennial League and Colorado 5A All-State teams, as well as earning Academic All-State honorable mention honors throughout her career. A member of the Real Colorado National club team, she led her squad to three Colorado State titles and three Region IV finals. Cephers also lettered in volleyball at Smoky Hill.

Adair on Cephers:

“Candace is a strong, physical, athletic player who has great field presence. She has proven to be very versatile throughout her club career and could play a number of different positions for us. We look forward to her stepping on the field and contributing from the start. “

Katherine Colevas

Defender – 5-6

Mclean, Va. – St. John’s College High School

Bethesda Freedom

A four-year letterwinner at St. John’s College High School, Colevas played various positions and was a member of the 2011 WCAC Championship team. In 2010 and 2011, she was selected to the WCAC Honorable Mention team. The Mclean, Va., native is a defender for the Bethesda Freedom club squad. She also played in the Elite Clubs National League, Region 1 Premier League and the Washington Area Girls Soccer Division I League. Colevas also lettered in swimming at St. John’s and holds the team record for the 100 breaststroke and was the 2010 finalist at the DC Metro Swimming and Diving Championships. She is a four-time recipient of the De LaSalle Scholars program and is a member of the National Honors Society.

Adair on Colevas:

“Kat is a tremendous athlete who comes from a very well coached club team. She will provide versatility on our backline with the ability to play centerback and both outsideback positions. Kat is a hardworking touch defender and we are looking forward to her joining our team.”

Sydney Curtis

Defender – 5-6

Cary, N.C. – Green Hope High School

‘94 CASL CHELSEA Ladies

Curtis is a three-year letterwinner at Green Hope High School in Cary, N.C. She captained her squad her senior season and led the team to the 2012 North Carolina State 4A State Finals. Curtis earned All-Conference second team honors in 2012 as her squad won the Tri 9 Conference. The Cary, N.C., native is a member of the ’94 CASL CHELSEA Ladies, along with fellow recruit Bria Dixon. In 2011, she was placed on the ECNL San Antonio All Event Team as her squad was named U16 ECNL National Champions. Throughout her club teams, she was a member of three National Championship teams.

Adair on Curtis:

“Sydney is a tremendous soccer player, she has a great mix of athleticism and soccer playing ability. She has a good mind for the game, reads the game well and understands how play within the team. Sydney along with Bria (Dixon) comes from a very successful club team who has won a national championship. Sydney will add to our culture, our leadership and championship winning ways.”

Bria Dixon

Forward/Midfield – 5-6

Cary, N.C. – Cary High School

‘94 CASL CHELSEA Ladies

Dixon is a two-year starter going into her senior season at Cary High School. The Cary, N.C., native is a two-time NCHSAA All-Region and Tri-9 All-Conference first team selections. She led her team to the NCHSAA playoffs for the first time in six years and is the ESPNHS contender for the 2011 Gatorade State Player of the Year. Dixon attended the ECNL/ID2 Player Development Program in 2012 and was in the Top-100 TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Ranking in 2011. She attended the Super Y National Camp in 2009 and earned a spot on the Super Y Nationals All-Tournament team. Dixon has been a member of the ’94 CASL CHELSEA Ladies for the past seven years that won the 2012 and 2011 ECNL U17 National Championships. She led her squad to the 2011 North Carolina State Cup and the 2010 Region 3 Premier League East Championship.

Adair on Dixon:

“Bria has had success at the club level, including winning two national championships. She adds a tremendous amount of versatility, speed, athleticism and depth to our team. Bria has played and will be able to play on every line of the field. She and Sydney (Curtis) have played together with their CASL club team and competed for national titles year in and year out.”

Blayne Fink

Goalkeeper – 5-8

Chesterfield, Va. – Cosby High School

’94 Richmond Kicker’s Elite

A three-year starter in goal at Cosby High School in Chesterfield, Va., Fink is a member of the 2012 Group AAA championship team in Virginia. She and her teammates made history, as Cosby High became the first Central Region team to win a state championship in women's soccer. She tallied a record of 23-0-1, with both regional and state matches won in overtime penalty kicks. She earned 2012 All-Dominion District, All-Central Region and All-Metro first-team honors, and she was a second-team All-Group AAA choice. In addition, she was awarded the Coach’s Leadership Award following her junior campaign. She is a three-time Dominion District champion and all-academic honoree. The goalkeeper has been a member of the Richmond Kickers for the past eight years and captained her squad for three seasons. In 2012, her squad was the U18 State Cup Finalist. Fink also lettered in golf and basketball at Cosby.

Adair on Fink:

“We are happy to have Blayne join our side. She provides good size, athleticism and technical ability to our goalkeeper position. Blayne is a tireless worker who is ready to join the Hokie family. She is also very good with her feet and a modern goalkeeper who will add depth and compete for playing time for us in the future.”

Kallie Peurifoy

Forward – 5-7

Charleston, S.C. – Academic Magnet High School

South Carolina United

A four-year starter at Academic Magnet High School, Peurifoy was named an NSCAA All-American in 2011. She led her squad to the 2011 State Championships and was named to the 2A/1A All-State team, as well as the HSSR SCHSL Player of the Year. This season, her team was the state finalist, was selected to the XXII Girls Soccer Team and was named the Post and Courier Girls Soccer Player of the Year. The Charleston, S.C., native is a member of the South Carolina United club team, who are two-time state finalists. South Carolina United won the CASL Tournament and the WAGS Tournament in 2011.

Adair on Peurifoy:

“Kallie is a special player who possesses an ability to score goals and create for herself and teammates. Kallie is very technical with the ball at her feet and has the ability to play up front and in the midfield. She has a quick release around goal that will add to our offensive attack. We are excited for her to join our side and look forward to her stepping on the field for us.”

Murielle Tiernan

Forward – 5-11

Ashburn, Va. – Stone Bridge

FC Virginia Hotspur

A three-year letterwinner at Stone Bridge High School, Tiernan enters her senior season the reigning Washington Post All Met Player of the Year. She led her team in goals and assists, while being named to the VHSL AAA All-State first team, All-Northern Region first team and the Liberty District first team. Tiernan has led her team to two Northern Region Championships. She is a member of the FC Virginia Hotspur club team and was a 2012 ECNL All Event Team Selection, while being invited to the National ID2 Camp in 2011. She also was a four-year starter in basketball at Stone Bridge.

Adair on Tiernan:

“We are extremely excited to have signed Murielle. She is athletic, strong and dangerous up front. Murielle will provide depth and a scoring punch to our frontline and is the type of player who creates for herself, as well as, her teammates and will fit right into our program.”
