GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Ashley Meier of the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team was named to the 2012 All-ACC Second Team and All-Freshman Team as announced by the conference office Thursday morning. This is just the second time a freshman earned all-freshman and second team honors for the Hokies since Tech joined the ACC in 2004.

The Strongsville, Ohio, native is a threat on both sides of the field at the midfielder position. She has played in 18 games; making 17 starts this season and is tied for first on the squad in goals with seven. Her seven goals and three assists are good for 17 points to land her second on Tech in points. The freshman’s game-winning goal against Clemson found its way on Sports Center’s Top-10 Plays, ranking No. 7. She played a big part in the win against No. 18 Maryland as she assisted the game-winner and played 81 minutes to limit the Terps to just four shots on goal.

Meier was the only Hokie to find the back of the net against No. 18 North Carolina and notched her first assist against No. 4 Boston College. At the beginning of the season, Meier was placed on the Wake Forest Invitational All-Tournament team for leading both squads with a goal and four shots against Massachusetts.
