Mitchell honored by Top Drawer Soccer
Named to the website's Team of the Week

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior Kelsey Mitchell of the No. 16 Virginia Tech women’s soccer team was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s College Team of the Week, as announced by TopDrawerSoccer.com Tuesday morning.

"This award Kelsey has earned is very well deserved," said second-year head coach Chugger Adair. "She anchored our defense from start to finish all weekend. And helped organize and build confidence in our team, as she assisted our freshman goalkeeper, Caroline Kelly, earn her first two career shutouts."

Mitchell played a huge role in the Hokies’ opening weekend sweep this past weekend, as they posted a 1-0 double-overtime victory over UNC Wilmington before a 2-0 win over the Richmond Spiders. She played every minute in the pair of shutout wins.

The TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s College Team of the Week is chosen after reviewing every match report for Division I soccer. Joining Mitchell with this honor is ACC opponent Kim DeCesare of Duke, along with Erin Dees (Portland), Taylor Heatherly (Baylor), Emily Goldstein (Iowa State), Christine Nairin (Penn State), Amy Harrison (Tennessee), Kristin Cummins (Texas), Grace Leer (California), Rachel Strawn (Idaho State) and Jonelle Filigno (Rutgers).

Tech will be back in action this weekend as it travels to Lincoln, Neb., for the Husker Classic. The Hokies will face host Nebraska Friday at 6 p.m., before a 10:30 a.m. matchup against Iowa State Sunday.
