Colpitts to compete for Team Canada at upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup
Meier added to the USA U-20 National Team's roster as an alternate

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Junior goalkeeper Dayle Colpitts departed for Japan Wednesday morning with her Canadian U-20 National Team to prepare for the 2012 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is scheduled for Aug. 19 to Sept. 8 in five cities across Japan.

The junior will miss the opening of the 2012 Virginia Tech women’s soccer season as she represents her home nation. Canada, one of 16 nations at the event, will open group play on Aug. 20 against Argentina. An Aug. 23 match against Norway will follow, before closing group play on Aug. 27 against North Korea.

Following group play, the top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the tournament portion of the event. Quarterfinal matches are set for Aug. 30-31, while semifinal matches are scheduled for Sept. 4. The gold medal and bronze medal matches are set for Sept. 8. Colpitts will return to the Hokies immediately following Canada’s final match at the World Cup.

After getting called up from the U-18’s this summer to participate at the USA U-20 National Team Camp, freshman Ashley Meier has been added to the official roster as an alternate. Meier will be on call to join Team USA if a spot becomes open.

Tech opens its season next Friday, Aug. 17 as it hosts the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational and will take the field for the second match at 7:30 p.m. against UNC Wilmington.
