BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer program three more newcomers to the upcoming 2012 roster as announced by head coach Chugger Adair Thursday afternoon. Morgan Conklin, Delia Maresco and Nicolette Young will finalize the Hokies’ incoming freshman class.

“We are excited to announce the remaining group of our 2012 class,” commented Adair. “We believe we have a great class with good balance who will help our team continue our recent growth. We look forward to them joining our team and their immediate impact.”

Morgan Conklin

Midfield – 5-4

Midlothian, Va. – Clover Hill

Richmond Kickers

Conklin was a four-year letterwinner at Clover Hill High School. She was named the 2011 Dominion District Player of the Year and received All-District first team honors her sophomore and junior campaigns. She earned All-Central Region first team and All-State second team honors as a junior. She was also placed on the 2011 All-Metro first team. She played club ball for the Richmond Kickers for the past 10 years and was selected to the Super Y National Pool in 2009 and 2010. Her brother, Christian plays football at the University of Richmond.

Adair on Conklin:

“Morgan is a great kid who brings a tremendous work ethic, quality in defending, and the ability to play out of the back. She can play on either side of the field and has experience at the centerback position. She will give us depth along the backline and compete for a starting spot at one of the outside back positions.”

Delia Maresco

Midfield – 5-5

McLean, Va. – The Madeira School

McLean ECNL Strikers / Washington Freedom Super-Y

Maresco was a four-year letterwinner and captained her Madeira School squad her senior year. She led the team in goals all four season and was voted team MVP during her junior and senior seasons. She earned All ISL Player honors her junior and senior campaigns. She led her team to the ISL A finals in 2009 and 2010, while making it to the semi-finals in 2011. Maresco was a member of the McLean ECNL Strikers club team. Her squad was the USYS National Finalist in 2010, where the team was ranked second in the nation, first in the region and first in the state. The Strikers also were Region 1 Champions, Virginia State Cup Champions and the winners of the Jefferson Cup in 2010. She also played club for the Washington Freedom Super-Y team. She captained her squad from 2008-2010. Maresco was voted Tournament MVP in the 2010 SYL National Championship, as her team became National Champions. She was also a SYL ODP National Camp selection. Maresco is ranked in the top-100 on the National Players and top-20 Regional Players on TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Adair on Maresco:

“Delia will strengthen our central midfield position. She has a great head for the game, is very technical and strong in the air. She will help us transition into the attack and maintain quality possession through our midfield. We are looking forward to her joining our team and her former teammate Katie Yensen in the midfield position here at Tech.”

Nicolette Young

Forward/Midfield – 5-5

Williamsburg, Va. – Jamestown

Virginia Legacy Phoenix Elite

Young is a three-year letterwinner and two-year captain at Jamestown High School as she enters her senior season this spring. She received all-region honors her junior and sophomore seasons, as well as all-state honors her junior campaign. She helped her squad win the regional championship her freshman, sophomore and junior campaigns. Her team advanced to the state quarterfinals all three years. She recorded 14 goals and nine assists during her junior campaign. Young has been the captain of the Virginia Legacy Phoenix Elite club team for six years. She finished first in the CASL Showcase her sophomore season and was invited to play in the CASL, WAGS and Jefferson Cup Showcases her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.

Adair on Young:

“Nicolette will add depth and pace to our frontline. She has ability to break teams down with her speed, her movement and attack the space behind the oppositions backline. We look for her to come right in and compete for a starting spot and create goal scoring chances for both herself and teammates.”
