BLACKSBURG, Va. – Junior midfielder Kelly Conheeney was named to the 2011 NCAA Women’s Division I All-Southeast second team announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. This is the third-consecutive season in which Conheeney has earned postseason accolades and the first time she has earned the all-region honors.

Conheeney becomes the first player in program history to garner the award.

“This is a tremendous honor, which is very much deserved,” commented first-year head coach Chugger Adair. “Kelly was instrumental in our successful season and I am very please she was honored by the region. She has been a tireless worker spending endless hours improving her game, maintaining her fitness and finding different ways to help our team continue to be successful.”

The Ridgewood, N.J., native started all 23 games for the Hokies this season, who made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for only the second time in program history. Conheeney led the team with 12 goals, 30 points and seven game-winning goals, while also becoming Tech’s all-time leader in career points and game-winners this season.

The first team consists of all ACC players from six different schools, including three from ACC Tournament champion Florida State. Joining Conheeney on second team are five ACC players, including two from NCAA finalist Duke, while Boston College placed two on the third team.
