GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech women’s soccer midfielder Kelly Conheeney and forward Jazmine Reeves were named to the 2011 All-ACC Second Team as announced by the conference office Thursday morning. Conheeney is one of two midfielders on the second team, while Reeves is one of four sophomores. This marks the first year Tech has had two women’s soccer athletes named to the All-ACC second team.
“I think Kelly Conheeney and Jazmine Reeves are well deserved to be honored by the ACC,” commented first-year head coach Chugger Adair. “Second team All-ACC is a tremendous honor in such a strong conference. Seeing the other names within the conference that are listed beside them are tremendous and I think they should be very happy and have been a huge part to our success this year. I think it’s a great honor for them, our team and overall program to see two players honored by ACC.”
Conheeney started all 19 regular season games for the Hokies this season, while making her 64th consecutive start in the first round of the ACC Tournament against Duke last Sunday. The Ridgewood, N.J., native leads the team in goals (10), points (26), shots (58) and game-winning goals (5). Conheeney became Tech’s all-time leader in career game-winning goals with 12 and in points with 69 this season as a junior. She tallied three multi-goal games this season to allow her to become tied for first all-time in multiple goal games. In the opening weekend of Divison I women’s college soccer season, Conheeney was named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer Honoree as she helped lead the Hokies to a 2-0 start. Conheeney notched the game-winner and her first ACC goal of the season to upset then-No. 8 North Carolina on Oct. 23.
This is the second consecutive ACC honor for Reeves, last season she was named to the 2010 ACC All-Freshman squad. The Dover, Del., native made her 30th straight start as a Hokie against Duke in the first round of the ACC Tournament. Reeves leads the team and is tied for first in the conference in assists with eight on the season. She has charted five goals, 18 points and 56 shots. On Oct. 16, Reeves lifted Tech over NC State with the lone goal of the game late in the second half for her second career game-winner. For her efforts against NC State, Reeves was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week on Monday, Oct. 17. She fired a career-high nine shots earlier this season against Nebraska.
