RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Jazmine Reeves recorded the game-winning goal to lift the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team over the NC State Wolfpack, 1-0, in ACC action Sunday afternoon at Dail Soccer Field. The Hokies improved to 11-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference, while NC State fell to 9-6-2 on the season and 0-4-2 in the ACC.

“It was a good win for us today,” commented head coach Chugger Adair. “NC State is very tough to play against and are very strong at home so it was good for us to come in and grind out a win like we did. The girls worked hard and we deserved to win. I am very happy for them and proud to get the win today.”

The Hokies came out strong in the first, as Kelly Conheeney took the first shot a minute in, but hit the cross bar. Dayle Colpitts made the first save of the game when NC State’s Kristina Argiroff took a hard shot on goal at the 15:36 mark. The two teams traded shots back and forth but could not find the back of the net and would go into the break still 0-0.

Tech took the shot advantage in the first half, taking five to the Wolfpack’s four. Colpitts finished the half with three saves, while in goal for NC State Kim Kern stopped one.

Argiroff took the first shot early in the second half for the Wolfpack in the 46^th minute, but went wide. The Hokies responded 10 minutes later with a shot by Kelsey Loupee that went high and a corner kick taken by Anne Lumpkin at the 56:05 mark.

Senior Kelsey Mitchell sent a cross ball into the box and Reeves jumped up and headed the ball over Kern’s head to put Tech on the board and to secure the game at the 67:22 mark.

The Wolfpack tried to tie the score a minute later with their only shot on goal in the half but Colpitts was there to record her fourth save, while earning her fifth shutout of the season. Kern recorded the loss for NC State as she tallied one save for the day.

The Wolfpack outshot Tech 9-7, while the Hokies outcornered NC State 3-1.

The Hokies will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Charlottesville to take on state-rival Virginia at 7 p.m. The game will be aired on the FOX Soccer Channel.
