BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team blanked the Clemson Tigers, 3-0, as it records its second ACC win on Thursday night at Thompson Field. Katie Cramp, Jazmine Reeves and Shannon Mayrose all connect on goals, while Kelly Conheeney tallied three assists. Cramp's early goal at 2:22, marks the quickest goal a Hokie has scored since Nov. 4, 2007 when Ashley Kinser found the back of the net at the 2:13 mark in a 3-0 win over Boston College.

“It was a good night for us,” commented first-year head coach Chugger Adair. “The girls played hard and strong. We got an early goal that was key for the night and we were able to build some confidence over that. Clemson fought hard and was difficult to break down, which made it a hard fought match. I am happy for Dayle to get the shutout, I think she deserves it and Clemson was tough. I am please with the effort and we are looking forward to State."

Tech (10-4-1, 2-3-1 ACC) came out strong taking the first shot 53 seconds into the game when Kelsey Loupee fired a hard ball but the Clemson keeper was there to make the first save of the night. The Hokies got the ball back and Conheeney sent a cross into the box where Cramp connected on her third goal of the season to put Tech on the board early.

Both teams continued to attack trading back-to-back shots, before Ashley Manning sent a hard ball but was blocked by a Tiger, which awarded Tech with a corner kick at the 40:23 mark. Conheeney went back to take the corner and sent a nice ball into the box where Mayrose headed the ball over the keeper’s head for her eighth goal of the season. The two teams would go into the break with the Hokies up 2-0.

The shots were even at seven apiece at the end of the first half, while Clemson (5-9-0, 0-7-0 ACC) had the corner advantage at 2-1.

Early in the second half, Clemson’s keeper Morgan Hert left the game due to injury and Lauren Arnold was sent into the game. Hert would leave the game with two saves.

The Hokies took three shots and a corner kick 10 minutes into the half, before Conheeney was awarded a free kick at the left side of the box and sent the ball to Reeves. The sophomore forward fired a high shot to the far post at the 66:54 mark to end the game at 3-0.

Tech outshot the Tigers 13-9, while taking two corners to Clemson’s one. Sophomore Dayle Colpitts recorded the shutout for the Hokies, while picking up five saves on the night. Hert took the loss for the Tigers, while Arnold finished the night with two saves.

The Hokies will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 16 when they travel to NC State for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
