BLACKSBURG, Va. – Kelly Conheeney of the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team was selected as one of the eight CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers of the Week, as announced by CollegeSoccer360.com.

“It’s great to hear that Kelly Conheeney was honored,” commented first-year head coach Chugger Adair. “This shows all of the hard work and dedication that she put in over the summer and preseason. She has brought a lot of success to this program and looks to continue that success. She came out ready to play and it translated into our first couple matches.”

Conheeney played a huge role in the Hokies opening pair of road victories as they posted a 4-0 victory over Southern Conference favorite UNC Greensboro before a 3-1 win over James Madison. She led the squad with two goals against UNCG, as she found the back of the net with a penalty kick late in the first half before notching the game-winning goal from the right wing. Conheeney has scored the game-winning goal in all three season openers during her collegiate career.

Against the James Madison Dukes, Conheeney helped the Hokies create more scoring chances, while providing a free-kick assist to Shannon Mayrose’s tying goal from 38 feet out.

Joining Conheeney with this honor are ACC opponents Katie Stengel of Wake Forest and Duke’s keeper, Tara Campbell, along with forward Caroline Brown (Tennessee), forward Danielle Foxhoven (Portland), forward Tawni Martino (Loyola Marymount) and forward Stephanie Ochs (Portland).

UC Irvine’s Jennifer Randazzo was named CollegeSoccer360.com’s Player of the Week.

Tech opens its home slate at Thompson Field on Friday, Aug. 26 as it takes on High Point for a 7 p.m. matchup.
