TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team battled with a talented No. 9/10 Florida State team, but came up short, losing 2-0. Janice Cayman netted both goals for the Seminoles in the victory.

Though neither team got out to an aggressive start, Florida State (12-3-1, 6-1-1 ACC) was able to get on the board early when Cayman put away a loose rebound after a corner kick to give her team the 1-0 lead.

The slow half would continue, with fouls plaguing the Hokies (8-8-1, 2-5-1 ACC) and preventing them from getting anything going. The Seminoles eventually took the lead and the 4-1 shooting edge into the intermission.

Much like the start of the game, it did not take long for Florida State to get things going again in the second half, upping the lead to 2-0 in the 57^th minute. Cayman struck again, this time from 12 yards out after receiving a through ball from Rachel Lim.

Tech went on to rack up 14 fouls in the game, nearing the season high of 15, while also being outshot 9-3 in the match.

This is the first time the Hokies have been shut out in three straight games since the 2005 season as they opened conference play.

Freshman Dayle Colpitts and Florida State’s Kelsey Wys each made one save in the match.

Tech returns to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 28, as the team travels to Clemson for the final road game of the regular season. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
