CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team fell to the Miami Hurricanes, 2-0, on the road. This is the second straight game the Hokies have dropped and the second consecutive match they have been shut out.

Though they took the first three shots of the game and got out to an intimidating start, the Hokies (8-7-1, 2-4-1 ACC) slipped up in the 38^th minute, committing a foul in the box that awarded the Hurricanes (10-5-1, 4-3-0 ACC) a penalty kick opportunity. Miami’s leading-scorer Brittany Steinbruch put the free shot away to give Miami the 1-0 lead.

Miami eventually took the lead, as well as the 5-4 shooting edge, into the intermission.

The second half began much like the game, with Tech getting out to an early attack, but 15 minutes into the new period the Hurricanes struck again. Jordan Roseboro buried a bending shot that snuck past Tech’s diving keeper to give Miami the 2-0 lead.

The Hokies wouldn’t back down, though, taking three quick shots in the 65^th minute, and outshooting the Hurricanes 7-5 in the second half, which gave them the 12-9 game shooting edge. Tech also outmatched the ‘Canes on target, taking six shots on goal, compared to Miami’s four.

Freshman Dayle Colpitts made two saves in the game while Miami’s Vikki Alonzo tallied six in the match.

The Hokies return to action on Sunday, Oct. 24 as they travel north, to Tallahassee, to take on Florida State at 1 p.m.
