GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior defender Brittany Michels was named the ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, along with Maryland’s Colleen Deegan, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference Tuesday. Michels tallied her first three points of the season in Tech’s 2-1 upset at No. 4/2 Boston College, while Deegan was also involved on a pair of game-winners against the Eagles and NC State last week.

Michels, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., scored her first goal of the season 21 minutes into the match to give Tech the 1-0 lead, an edge the team carried into the halftime break. After the Eagles were able to even things up early in the second half, Michels was involved again offensively when she assisted the go-ahead goal with just over 15 minutes left to go in the game. The defender also helped protect the regained lead and her keeper, assisting the strong Hokie defense in not allowing Boston College, who entered the week of play averaging three goals per game, to score again.

The victory returned the Hokies to No. 25 in the Soccer America poll. The win was also the team’s second over a top-10 team in a seven-day span after it defeated No. 5/7 Maryland, 1-0, at home. The Hokies have never defeated top-10 competition in back-to-back games and only defeated ranked opponents in back-to-back games once, in 2009, after taking down then-No. 18 Virginia on the road and then-No. 1 North Carolina at home.
