WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 23 Hokies fell to Kentucky, 2-1, in the first of two games at the ACC/SEC Challenge. Senior leader Kelsey Billups was the goal-scorer for Tech, while Jenna Goblirsch and Caitlin Landis each scored for the Wildcats.

Tech (2-3-0) dominated the ball early, attacking the Wildcats (3-0-0) right out of the gate. In the 16^th minute the Hokies were able to get on the board when Billups put the ball away from close range after a quick play from Kelly Conheeney and Katie Cramp, who each earned an assist on the play.

The action would slow for the remainder of the half, as Tech took the 1-0 lead into the break after out-shooting the Wildcats 7-3 in the first 45 minutes.

In the 49^th minute Kentucky found an answer for Tech’s score when Goblirsch found the back of the net. Natalie Horner lobbed the free kick in to Taylor Parker, who slipped the ball to Goblirsch, tying things up at one apiece.

Just over ten minutes later, the Wildcats struck again. Alyssa Telang got a hold of the ball after a Hokie turnover and put it up ahead for Landis, who beat the keeper and gave Kentucky the 2-1 edge.

Despite the Hokies pressuring the Wildcats’ net for what was left of the second half, including numerous shots and corner kicks in the final three minutes of the match, they were unable to recover. Tech did outshoot the Wildcats 8-3 in the half, but Kentucky was able to capitalize on its limited opportunities.

Freshman keeper Dayle Colpitts finished the game with two saves, while Kentucky’s Sydney Hiance tallied three.
