RADFORD, Va. – The Virginia State Sports Information Directors announced its All-State Selections on Monday, naming forward Marika Gray to the first team and midfielders Kelly Conheeney and Jennifer Harvey to the second team. Head coach Kelly Cagle was also honored on Monday as she was named Coach of the Year by the organization. Gray is the only honoree to have been recognized before, as she was named to the second team as a freshman. James Madison’s Corky Julian was named the VaSID Player of the Year for the second year in a row, while George Mason’s Tiana Kallenberger earned Freshman of the Year honors.

Cagle and her staff guided the Hokies to a program-best 16-8-0 record while also advancing all the way to the Sweet 16 after earning the first and second NCAA Tournament victories in program history. En route to their postseason success, Cagle set a new bar for Tech’s women’s soccer program after claiming numerous firsts for the program throughout the regular season. The seventh-year head coach led her squad to its first defeat of a top-ranked team as they took down North Carolina, 1-0, at home as part of a program-best seven-game overall win streak. Also included in the streak was the first defeat of in-state rival Virginia on the road, as well as the first victory over Clemson, which ended a four-year run of ties. Cagle and the Hokies also notched their best conference finish, putting together a 6-4-0 record, good for fourth in the ACC.

In her junior season, Gray led the Hokies in scoring with 10 goals and five game-winners, also tallying three multi-goal games on the year. The Alexandria, Va., native led Tech’s offense in the postseason, netting two goals in the second round against Dayton and one in the first round against Murray State. Gray also remains as the only current Hokie to have scored on North Carolina after netting the game-winner against the top-ranked Tar Heels. For her exceptional play, Gray was also named to the All-ACC second team this season, for the second time in her career.

Conheeney, a Ridgewood, N.J., native, concluded her outstanding freshman season tied for second on the team in scoring with nine goals, while also tallying four game-winners on the year. Conheeney scored the team’s first goal of the season against High Point and would take off from there, notching three multi-point games on the year. The first-year player would also come up big for her team in the postseason after burying the game-winner, in overtime, against Wake Forest to help Tech advance to the ACC Tournament semifinals. Conheeney was honored by the ACC as well, earning All-ACC Tournament and All-Freshman team accolades for her performance while she was also recently named to the Soccer America All-Freshman second team.

As a junior, Harvey surpassed all her previous accomplishments at Tech, nearly doubling her career goals total in just one season. The Roanoke, Va., native finished the season tied for second on the team with nine goals while also going 5-for-5 in penalty kicks on the year. Harvey became the first Hokie since 2006 to tally a hat trick as she did so early in the season against the College of Charleston. Harvey also continued to excel in the classroom as she was named, for the second time, to the Academic All-District III team, earning first team honors this year.
