Today we kick off our 2012 season with a home opener against UNC Wilmington. This is a very important game for our team, as it will set the tone for our season. For us seniors (myself, Kelly Conheeney, Amanda Gerhard, Kelsey Mitchell, and Julia Goldsworthy) it is the start to our last season as a member of the Virginia Tech soccer team.
I couldn’t be more excited to see what this season has in store for our team. We have had a great preseason and we really seem to be coming closer as a team entering this first weekend. I still feel like I could be a freshman staying in Cochrane dorms, but that is sadly no longer the case! Our team is looking to gain our fifth consecutive NCAA and ACC Tournament bids. These are things we have been preparing for since our season came to an end against Virginia in the Sweet 16 last year!
My final preseason has come to an end and I cannot wait for tonight! So much hard work and support from our past and present players and support staff has gone into this team, and I hope we can continue on the tradition of success here at Tech. Aside from just the soccer aspect, this team has and always will mean so much to myself. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that and also for the past players to come through this program.
Hopefully tonight will prove just how hard we have worked to get where we are today and allow us to build off the successful from last season!
GO HOKIES!
