No. 5 Hokies and No. 8 NC State to wrestle for ACC Dual Meet Championship on Saturday
Tech also welcomes South Dakota State for Senior Day on Sunday

BLACKSBURG - The fifth-ranked Virginia Tech wrestling team and the eight-ranked NC State Wolfpack with wrestle for the ACC Dual Meet Championship for the second-consecutive season on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum. The Hokies (15-1, 4-0 ACC) will also welcome No. 16 South Dakota State for Senior Day on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
Both matches will be streamed live on WatchESPN via the ACC Digital Network with Bailey Angle and Hokie legend Devin Carter on the call.
After taking a week off, the Hokies will look to win their third-consecutive ACC Dual Meet Championship on Saturday. Tech and the Wolfpack both enter the weekend with 4-0 records in conference play. Last season, the Hokies went down to Raleigh and knocked off the Wolfpack, 19-14, to claim the dual meet title.
Hokies in the NCAA Rankings
- Overall, senior Joey Dance has the best RPI in the nation as he enters the weekend with a 20-1 record.
- Dance is ranked first at 125 pounds and senior Ty Walz is slotted second at heavyweight in the first NCAA RPI Rankings.
- In the individual coaches rankings, eight of Tech’s 10 starters are ranked. Redshirt junior Jared Haught owns the highest on the team with a No. 3 ranking at 197.
Tech against ranked opponents
- The Hokies are 5-1 against ranked teams this season with its lone blemish coming at then No. 5 Missouri on Nov. 20.
- Tech defeated its lone ranked foe in conference this season, a 38-9 pummeling of No. 23 Pitt on Jan. 20.
- A win over the No. 8 Wolfpack would give the Hokies a win over their highest-ranked opponent of the season. No. 10 Lehigh is the highest-ranked foe that Tech has beaten this season.
Last match at Cassell for the seniors
- Sunday’s dual with South Dakota State will be the final regular season dual for five Hokie seniors.
- All five seniors, Joey Dance, Ty Walz, Sal Mastriani, David Bergida and Mattheos Lozier, have picked up a dual win for the Hokies this season.
