Dance picks up second ACC Wrestler of the Week honor of the season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Joey Dance has been tabbed ACC Wrestler of the Week after going 4-0 including a win over a fellow top 10 opponent this past weekend at the Virginia Duals, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Dance, ranked second nationally at 125 pounds, began the Duals with technical falls over Cory Simpson of Kent State (22-7) and Jake Field of Lock Haven (20-4).

He then defeated Josh Rodriguez of North Dakota State, the nation’s fourth-ranked wrestler, 5-3 to start a 22-15 Tech win over the Bison in leading the Hokies to the championship match against 15th-ranked Oklahoma. The win over Rodriguez was the 100th of his career. Then he got his team off to a spectacular start in the championship in a 24-10 win, with a pin of Oklahoma’s Christian Moody at the 5:48 mark of their match.

Dance is the 10th wrestler in program history to eclipse 100 career victories. He has now won ACC Wrestler of the Week four times in his four years on the mat in Blacksburg.

Dance and the Hokies return to Cassell Coliseum this weekend with two ACC duals. Tech takes on Pitt on Friday at 7 p.m. before facing in-state rival Virginia at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
