Epperly named Co-ACC Wrestler of the Week
The Christiansburg product defeated two top 20 foes over the weekend at 174 pounds

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Redshirt junior Zach Epperly has been named Co-ACC Wrestler of the Week after defeating two top 20 opponents in a 2-0 weekend for the Virginia Tech wrestling team. Epperly shares the honor with North Carolina's Joey Ward.
Epperly, ranked second nationally by InterMat and FloWrestling, scored a major decision (12-4) over 17th-ranked Jonathan Schlieffer of Princeton, in leading the Hokies to a 30-11 win over the Tigers. He then scored an 8-2 decision over seventh-ranked Ethan Ramos of North Carolina in Tech’s 28-8 win over the Tar Heels in the Hokies’ ACC season-opener. He is now 8-0 overall.
The conference honor is the second of Epperly’s career. The Christiansburg native was previously named ACC Wrestler of the Week after going 5-2 and placing fifth at 174 pounds at the 2014 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Epperly and the Hokies return to action this weekend at the Virginia Duals which will take place on Friday, Jan. 13, and Saturday, Jan. 14.
