Dresser announces wrestling signing class
Four prep standouts join Tech program

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech head wrestling coach Kevin Dresser announced Wednesday the signing of four prep athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Hokies’ nationally ranked wrestling squad. The group of David McFadden, Andrew Dunn, Cody Hughes and B.C. LaPrade make up the 2015 signing class.

“These four guys represent another class of quality individuals that we are excited to welcome to the Virginia Tech Wrestling family,” Dresser said. “We will potentially be looking for a few more guys this spring however we feel this is an excellent start.”

David McFadden, from DePaul Catholic in New Jersey, is the No. 1-ranked 152-pounder in the country as ranked by both FloWrestling and InterMat. He is also the overall No. 18 national senior, as ranked by InterMat, and is ranked 37th nationally by FloWrestling. McFadden was a New Jersey state champion last year at 145 pounds and took sixth as a sophomore (126 pounds) and second as a freshman (113 pounds). He recently won his match at Flowrestling’s Who’s No. 1? dual meet at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to take over the top spot. McFadden placed second at the 2014 Junior Nationals and enters his senior season with a career record of 118-8. He is projected as a 165-pounder in college.

Andrew Dunn is a top-flight heavyweight who wrestles at Bethlehem Catholic in Pennsylvania. Ranked as the No. 12 heavyweight in the country and the No. 69 senior prospect by FloWrestling, he is a two-time PIAA Class AA state wrestling medalist who recently won the heavyweight division at the Super 32 meet in Greensboro, North Carolina. He enters his senior season with a 100-35 record. He is a two-time District 11 champion and was the 2014 Southeast Regional champion at 220 pounds. Dunn finished sixth in the PIAA tournament as a sophomore at 285 pounds and third at 220 pounds as a junior. He was a second-team All-Area pick by The Express-Times last season.

Cody Hughes wrestles at Marshwood High in Maine and placed third at the 2014 NHSCA Junior Nationals in Folkstyle at 152 pounds. He took second at the New England Regional Championships as a junior and won the NHSCA Sophomore Nationals in 2013. A three-time state champion, he went 50-0 as a junior. Hughes is projected as a 157- or 165-pounder in college.

B.C. LaPrade wrestles at New Kent High in central Virginia. As a junior, he went 43-4 and was the Group 3A state champion, the 3A East champion and the Conference 25 champion. He finished first at the Turner Ashby Invitational, sixth at the Escape the Rock tournament and third at the WRAL tournament. He was undefeated and didn’t allow an offensive point against opponents from Virginia. He will likely be a 149-pounder in college.
