BLACKSBURG (hokiesports.com) - Fresh off a program-best 10th-place showing at the 2013 NCAA Championships, Virginia Tech wrestling coach Kevin Dresser has released the team’s 2013-14 schedule, one that will test the Hokies once again as they continue to build upon last season’s success.

The Hokies will open the season on Nov. 8, taking on Hofstra in a dual match as part of the opening weekend in Salem, Va. On Sunday, Tech will host the annual Hokie Open at the Salem Civic Center, but the format will be different. In addition to a smaller open tournament on five mats, the other five mats will feature three sets of dual meets. Each team, including Tech, will wrestle at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Currently, Kent State, Old Dominion, Wisconsin, Rider, Virginia, VMI and others will join the Hokies in the dual meet portion of the event.

On Nov. 16, Tech will host nationally ranked Edinboro on the same day as the Hokies football team hosts Maryland. The meet will likely be before the football game as the program tries to draw a record crowd to Cassell Coliseum. The time for that will be set after the football kickoff time is set 12 days prior to game day. The following day, Tech will host American and Manchester (IN) University in a pair of dual meets on Nov. 17. Manchester is coached by former Hokie wrestling Matt Burlingame.

Tech opens ACC competition on Nov. 24, traveling to Charlottesville to take on the University of Virginia at 2 p.m. The Hokies also travel to NC State (Jan. 26) and Pittsburgh (Feb. 7) and will take on Duke on Jan. 24 in Charlotte, N.C., at the Charlotte Latin Day School. Tech will host North Carolina (Jan. 17) and Maryland (Jan. 19) in conference action.

The Hokies will also head to Norfolk to take on Old Dominion on Nov. 26 and will take on nationally ranked Ohio State on the road on Feb. 23. Individually, Tech will head to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Invitational in early December and will wrap up the 2013 calendar year by participating in the Midlands Invitational in Illinois, an event Tech took second in last year. The Hokies will also head back to Hampton for to defend their team title in the annual Virginia Duals at the Hampton Coliseum.

The 2014 ACC Championships will be held on March 8 in Blacksburg as the Hokies look to defend their title, and the NCAA Championships will be held March 20-22 in Oklahoma City.

All dates and times are tentative until the ACC releases the men’s and women’s basketball schedules later this summer.
