Yates Named ACC Wrestler Of The Week
165-pound senior leads Hokies to finals of NWCA National Duals
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theacc.com) – Virginia Tech redshirt senior Pete Yates has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week for the third time this season after defeating the nation’s fourth-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds and leading the seventh-ranked Hokies to wins over fellow nationally ranked teams in the first two rounds of the NWCA National Duals last weekend at Corvallis, Ore.

The fifth-ranked Yates avenged his lone loss of the season in big fashion with a 7-2 win over fourth-ranked Bubby Graham of Oklahoma as the Hokies won two matches at the Oregon State Regional of the National Duals. Yates fell behind early, but got a takedown in the second period and three near fall points late as the Hokies rolled past No. 25 Oklahoma, 33-6.

In Tech’s 20-15 win over No. 9 Oregon State, Yates dominated with a 15-0 technical fall win over Seth Thomas as the Hokies won the regional and advanced to the finals of the NWCA National Duals, which are set to be held in Minneapolis this Friday and Saturday.
