BLACKSBURG - Fresh off a program-best showing at the 2012 NCAA Championships, Virginia Tech wrestling coach Kevin Dresser has released the team’s 2012-13 schedule, one that will test the Hokies once again as they continue to build upon last season’s success.
The Hokies will open the season on Nov. 4, hosting the annual Hokie Open at the Salem Civic Center. The dual meet portion of the season will begin two weeks after the Hokie Open with four matches at Cassell Coliseum. On Nov. 16, Tech will host nationally ranked Ohio State and then will take on Wisconsin and Manchester (Ohio) College in a pair of dual meets on Nov. 18. Machester is coached by former Hokie wrestling Matt Burlingame.
The homestand will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 25 as Tech takes on the University of Virginia at noon, the day after the annual football rivalry game in Blacksburg.
After a pair of road matches at Pittsburgh (Nov. 30) and Edinboro (Dec. 1), the starters will head to the Midlands Open at the end of the month. Tech will open the new year with a home dual match against Duke on Jan. 6 and then will make its return to the annual Virginia Duals in Hampton on Jan. 11 and 12.
The Hokies will then wrestle at North Carolina (Jan. 19) and at home against NC State the next day before heading to Maryland on Jan. 25 in their final ACC match. A road bout at Campbell on Feb. 9 precedes the NWCA National Duals on Feb. 17 where the Hokies are scheduled to wrestle in the Corvalis, Ore., pod.
Tech is scheduled to conclude its dual meet portion of the schedule at Old Dominion on Feb. 22, provided it isn’t in the finals of the NWCA Nation Duals.
The 2013 ACC Championships will be held on March 9 in College Park, Md., and the NCAA Championships will be held March 21-23 in Des Moines, Iowa.
